A user is not able to create a shared channel in Microsoft Teams or they cannot be added by others

ERROR: When a user is trying to create a shared channel in Microsoft Teams, the user gets an error saying \”we\’re having trouble creating your channel. Please try again later.\” Other users are also not able to add this particular user in their shared channel.

Investigation: Checking for some of these points would help finding the issue and fix.

  • Client specific issue? Check if the issue is reproducible on Teams desktop client only or on Teams web client too.
  • Team ownership? Is the affected user owner of the team they are trying to create a shared channel? The user should be owner of the team in order to create a new shared channel in a Microsoft Teams Team. If the user is not an owner, it is worth checking if the issue resolves by making the user team owner.
  • Restricted by Teams policy? Ensure the user is assigned with a policy that allows user to create a shared channel in Microsoft Teams team. This can be checked by navigating to https://admin.teams.microsoft.com/policies/channels.
  • Mailbox Type? Did you ever thought if mailbox type can also cause this issue? Yes, it can. If the user\’s mailbox type is not \”UserMailbox\”, this won\’t let the user to create a shared channel. Convert the mailbox and give it a try.
  • Still no luck? If this still doesn\’t resolve the issue, probably you would want to capture HAR logs while reproducing the issue in Teams web app and loook through it. I may help reading the logs if you need help.

    Hello Sir,
We have an issue where multiple users (internal) in shared channel are unable to view Files Tab. Behavior is same with teams web. We checked the site permissions for this shared channel and was set properly. Though we tried by elevating permissions as owner on the respective teams site, but still got no luck.

Also to note, for working users, they are seeing files tab intermittently. That means they need to switch between channels in order to get the Files tab appeared.

Any insights on this would be appreciated.
